Homicide Families to Meet

Homicide Families to Meet

Red Raincoat’s annual Victim Conference will be held this weekend in Wellington. The theme for this year’s conference is “Stand Tall’. “When a homicide occurs, the journey a victims’ family has to travel is unknown and filled with emotion. We want to empower our victims both with information from across the judicial system and a workshop aimed at assisting victims with the reintegration into society and helping them to build resilience in the aftermath of homicide” says Debbie Marlow organiser of the conference and spokeswoman for Red Raincoat Trust.

Red Raincoat Trust supports and assists victim’s families in the aftermath of homicide. Their annual conference offers a peer support network for these families, allowing them a rare opportunity to feel normal in their in shattered lives. This year the speakers have been chosen through Red Raincoat identifying which areas of the judicial process they get the most enquiries about and allowing speakers from these areas to address the families directly.

“The best support for homicide victims comes from their peers in similar circumstances and with 90 attendees; this year’s conference will be no different. It is a truly unique event!”
