The New Zealand Pig Hunting Association applauds the passing of the Game Animal Council Bill

“The passage of the Game Animal Council Bill into law is a huge milestone for pig hunters in New Zealand” said Warren Petersen President of the New Zealand Pig Hunting association

For the first time in over 80 years we will have a Council made up of hunting interests to manage our game animals on behalf of hunters for hunting.

The establishment of the New Zealand Game Animal Council reveals the determination of the last two (and previous) governments, and a succession of five Ministers of Conservation, to address the conflicts that have plagued the present administration of game animals, and clearly anticipates the involvement of all with interests in game animals.

A single organisation focused solely on the management of game animals, and unencumbered by such problems as competition for resources, divergent or changing priorities, and periodic arbitrary changes of direction, will be best placed to provide the outcomes needed.

“We will support and take ownership of the new Council. It is an unprecedented opportunity to constitute a Council under modern principles and attitudes, whilst remaining mindful of New Zealand’s unique situation with respect to game animals and conservation.”

“Let us be quite clear, contrary to the mischief of those opposing the bill the Game Animal Council is for the benefit of recreational pig hunters and all hunters for that matter” said Warren Petersen.

We want to express our special thanks to the Hon Peter Dunne, for his long standing and continued support for hunting, conservation and the Game Animal Council” he added

Pig Hunting is about providing food for our tables and the Game Animal Council will play an important role in securing that for the future.
