Statement from Dean Dunbar
Dean Dunbar, father of Joseph Dunbar, the youngest of the miners killed in the Pike River mine, says he is absolutely gutted that Peter Whitall is now refusing to meet with him and his family.
Dean Dunbar says “Peter, you reached out and offered to meet with families. Some of us accepted your offer as we have questions that may bring some sort of understanding and perhaps a bit of peace.”
“Surely you didn’t expect all to attend due to many living overseas, and some understandably unwilling. If you and the Pike Directors truly need, or want, to meet with us Peter, please don’t dictate how many can be there.”
“If you’re as sincere as I hope you are, don’t leave us in a dark hole of uncertainty and please re-consider meeting those willing. It is not an easy thing for us, but something which some of us feel we must do.”
