Reward offered in latest seal shooting

The Seals Of Nam

It is with shock and dismay that our organization learns of the latest shooting of a New Zealand fur seal, this one on Stewart Island. This is the third such crime to reach our attentions since May this year and includes the shooting of two critically endangered sea lions. We are particularly concerned as both seals and sea lions are a protected species.

In light of these shootings, and taking into account both the Jason Godsiff case as well as the ongoing killing of seals in Kaikora last year, it becomes evident that there is a culture of seal haters coming out of New Zealand. We take this opportunity to thank the media for highlighting these atrocities and exposing the situation for what it is.

Although our focus is mainly on ending the barbaric seal slaughter in Namibia, we do take cognisance of global issues pertaining to the protection of all 33 species of seals. Our organization is therefore offering a TEN THOUSAND RAND reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators of this latest crime.

We are calling on the DOC and the police to leave no stone unturned in the hunt for those responsible and we condemn in the strongest of terms those who continue to malign seals for feeding on a natural diet that has sustained them for 5 million years.

It is high time that an unethical fishing industry took responsibility for their own actions and stopped persecuting seals for eating fish. We urge anyone with knowledge of this despicable deed to do the honourable thing and report it so that justice may be served.

All information will be treated in the utmost confidentiality and can be forwarded to us via the contact page of our website http://www.thesealsofnam.org/contact-us/
