Food services workers plan mass action outside Auckland Hospital
Concerned hospital food services workers will gather outside Auckland Hospital for a two-hour picket tomorrow (2 December) at 1pm.
Workers from North Shore, Waitakere, Middlemore and Greenlane hospitals will bus to join the picket, opposing a proposal to outsource hospital food services to Compass and prepare the food off-site. The food is currently prepared in hospital kitchens, onsite in each hospital.
The workers will also be supported by other workers from Auckland Hospital.
“Our members are deeply concerned at the prospect of losing their jobs.” said SFWU spokesperson, Jill Ovens. “But this is not just about loss of jobs. It’s about the well-being of patients, and maintaining fresh, locally-sourced food cooked onsite in hospital kitchens.”
