Brazil introduces 10-year validity, NZ overdue
With Brazil introducing 10-year validity, 10-year NZ passports are long overdue.
Media release
Brazil has just joined a long list of nations who have moved from 5-year to 10-year biometric passports.
Whilst the New Zealand government have been procrastinating and sitting on its hands for over a year, Brazil has joined the ranks some of our major trading partners, including China, Canada, and the Netherlands, amongst others and have wisely moved from 5 to 10-year passports.
It must also not be forgotten that the US, Australia, the UK, and in fact most other world nations issue 10-year passports.
On the day before the election John Key promised the nation that NZ will move to reinstate 10-year passports, and with the holiday season rapidly approaching it's time for Mr Key to get a move on and live up to his promises.
