28 jobs lost at SRX Global in Wellington as NZ manufacturing
moves overseas
Workers at SRX Global in Wellington were shocked yesterday at the announcement their plant is closing and their work shifted to Australia and Malaysia.
Many of the workers at the circuit board manufacturer have been with the company for ten to thirty years and will find it very difficult to get comparable jobs or wages in the Wellington region.
The New Zealand manufacturing sector has flatlined recently, and SRX cited the number of its customers who were offshoring production and the volatility of manufacturing levels in New Zealand in its announcement.
EPMU members at SRX are entitled to redundancy compensation as part of their collective agreement.
