Big Change Starts Small - Human Rights Commission releases Race Relations Day resources

The Human Rights Commission has released a series of resources to celebrate Race Relations Day 2015.

“Our theme ‘Big Change Starts Small’ is based on last year’s winning Race Unity speech delivered by Auckland teen, Thai An Vo,” says Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy.

“Positive race relations can’t just live in a document at the United Nations, they must live in our communities, suburbs and lives: human rights begin at home.”

This year’s te reo Maori theme is the proverb “Itiiti rearea, kahika teitei, ka taea” – “The smallest bellbird is able to climb to the heights of the tallest Kahika tree.”

“New Zealand is one of the most ethnically diverse nations on earth and yet we are also one of the most peaceful. It’s something I’m incredibly grateful for but it’s also something we can’t take for granted,” said Dame Susan.
