Cannabis referendum welcomed by Northland candidate
The Cannabis Party Northland candidate welcomes news that Winston Peters is calling for a referendum on cannabis laws.
Mr Peters said he would recognise the result of a referendum on cannabis even though he had not tried the product himself.
Candidate Maki Herbert said the Cannabis Party would be willing to work with New Zealand First to draft an appropriate referendum question.
"In a democratic society the will of the public on cannabis policy should be recognised by parliament," she said.
"I will work with Mr Peters to initiate this referendum."
