New Zealander more popular option than British Monarch

New Zealander more popular option than British Monarch
Good news today with our annual polling shows Kiwis are increasingly in favour of a Kiwi Head of State.

The latest poll of 1000 people was carried out by Curia Market Research between April 6th and April 21st. The last two polls were held in March and June 2014 (before and after the 2014 royal visit). The poll asks "What is your preference for New Zealand’s next Head of State out of the following three options?"

The next British Monarch becomes King of New Zealand?
New Zealand has a New Zealander as Head of State elected by a two thirds majority in Parliament
New Zealand has a New Zealander as Head of State who is elected by the popular vote
Those in favour of the next Head of State being a New Zealander rose 3% from 44%. Support for the Monarchy dropped 3% to 46% (the same level they were at prior to the royal visit). Undecided voters remained the same. This is the highest ever polling for a Kiwi Head of State and the first time we have polled higher than the royal option.

A breakdown by age and gender showed that we increased support amongst both men and women and in all age categories (with the exception of the those aged 31-45). Support among people aged 61+ rose from 33% to 40%.

Each poll shows local fluctuations and the lead of just 1% is within the margin of error (+/- 3.2%. ) but the long term trend across all our polling over several years shows our campaign is slowly working and that our blueprint for change is winning people over.

It is a positive time for the campaign and we are pleased with the success we have had in promoting the benefits inherent in having a Kiwi Head of State. Thank you to all the people who have given their time and money to helping the campaign over the last year. We cannot succeed with out your help.

Kia Mana Motuhake a Aotearoa.
