Government proses weakening the Health and Safety law
Government proses weakening the Health and Safety law.
“The
Government’s suggestion that the new workplace health and
safety laws will be weakened is very disappointing”, says
Hazel Armstrong health and safety lawyer and member of the
Independent Forestry Safety Review Panel. “There should be no exemptions for small or medium
sized businesses. Most forestry contracting crews I met
while undertaking the Independent Forestry Safety Review
would fit into this exemption, but they are the most
dangerous and are most in need of better health and safety
systems”. “If workers want to be involved in
health and safety in their workplace, they should be able to
do so regardless of size of the company they work for, the
industry they work in, or the shift or tasks that they do in
their job,” said Armstrong. “We must strengthen
not weaken health and safety law in New Zealand.” END.
