Rain or Shine – Rates Ripoff Rally is on!
“With any luck the weather will hold, but the Rates Rip-off Rally will go on rain or shine,” says Auckland’s only centre-right mayoral candidate Stephen Berry. Rates Rip-off Rally will start at 1pm at Aotea Square for speeches before setting off on a short march to Auckland Council buildings on Albert Street.
“Today I will be telling Aucklanders about my plan for zero-rates increases above the level of inflation should I be elected Mayor at next year’s election. I’ve been promoting smaller government and lower taxation for years so people know that when I say zero increases above inflation, I mean it.”
“Arresting rates growth requires discipline and a genuine commitment to only funding those core services required by the Local Government Act such as footpaths, parks and waste collection. If a project is unaffordable one year then economies must be made to fund it the next year; we can’t keep on raiding the wallets of Auckland ratepayers.”
“It’s time Auckland Council showed ratepayers some damn respect.”
