Corrections Approves Interview with
Vincent Arbuckle, Deputy Chief Executive
Corporate Services, has confirmed that an application from
the journalist Michael White to interview Scott Watson in
prison has been approved.
The interview will be
subject to certain conditions related to security of the
prison and the interests of victims.
reconsidered the application in light of the High Court’s
ruling in June 2015 that determined that "where no concerns
of prison security are raised, and where the communication
is to a reputable journalist, then that is a circumstance
where the (freedom of expression right) in the NZ Bill of
Rights Act should almost always prevail".

At this early stage, the Omicron variant seems to be more infectious, and more able to bypass the protection offered by vaccines and by the antibodies generated by previous infection. The fact that it is being spread around the globe by travellers who were all presumably fully immunised and had pre-flight negative Covid tests is a bit alarming. Even so, it is still unclear at this point whether Omicron is likely to result in higher rates of hospitalisation and death than the Delta variant. Omicron will make you sick. But how sick..? More>>
