Doctor threatened with disciplinary action
Doctor threatened with disciplinary action after speaking out against TPPA
The CTU echoes concerns raised by the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) that Whanganui District Health Board is threatening to take displinary action against a senior doctor who spoke out publically against the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).
CTU Secretary Sam Huggard comments “Health professionals have consistently and repeatedly raised their concerns in every possible forum about what impact this secret trade deal may have on the patients and the families they care for.”
“New Zealanders across all occupations and walks of life are more and more worried about what the impact of these secret trade talks will be.”
“Gagging anyone from raising genuine concerns about the TPPA is unacceptable. Gagging a health professional, who has taken an oath to always defend and protect patients, is irresponsible.”
“Whanganui DHB must now not only retract their threat of displinary action but they must also make it very clear that they support all health professionals to speak out in defence and protection of patients and their families.
