NZ Steel workers agree on a way forward with their employer
Workers at NZ Steel have agreed to a deal with their employer which will allow the company to focus on becoming sustainable and resilient for the future – protecting jobs and the steel-making industry in New Zealand.
“We have renewed the collective agreement between NZ Steel and our members,” says Joe Gallagher, EPMU organiser for NZ Steel. “It’s a two-year deal which gives the company certainty about its costs and ensures good job security for the workers.
“It also helps NZ Steel achieve its goal of $50 million in sustainable savings.
“The steel price is low, and that’s putting pressure on the industry. The workers and NZ Steel are committed to keeping steel-making in New Zealand, and build a sustainable platform for the future.”
