Consensus sought
on pay equity principles
BusinessNZ says a practical approach is needed for pay equity claims under the Equal Pay Act.
BusinessNZ represents New Zealand businesses in the working group that will devise principles for pay equity in all sectors.
Chief Executive Phil
O’Reilly says it will be important that the principles
reflect economic reality rather than a bureaucratic or token
approach to women’s employment, while supporting equitable
pay rates in women-dominated occupations.
“We think it’s important that issues like this are solved in a way that reflects the real world needs of employers and employees and we will work diligently towards a consensus outcome.”
