Māori thought leaders coming to Nelson
Some of Aotearoa’s most influential thought leaders are coming to Nelson on19 and 20 November. The Te Atakura 2015 Te Tau Ihu Economic Summit is shaping up to be a major event for the top of the South Island.
Whether your interest is IT, business development, art, tourism, entrepreneurship, education, property investment or science based relationships; Te Atakura has some of the most influential thought leaders who will share their journey and learning’s. The fact that all but one of the twenty plus speakers is of Māori descent adds another dimension, resonating with Te Tau Ihu Māori and providing insight for non-Māori.
Keynote speaker Ian Taylor is an example of the caliber of those coming to speak. Beginning his career as a rock star and then a television presenter, in 1989 Taylor founded production house Taylormade, and on-line booking company BookIt, followed soon after by graphics company Animation Research Limited which revolutionised how we watch televised sport with the world’s first live 3D animated graphics.
Thursday 19 Novembers sees a full day of keynote speakers, ending with a panel discussion by some of the top of the South Islands iwi leaders. Day two sees a variety of master classes to choose from including Gallery owner Tim Melville who specialises in Aboriginal art and Scott Gibbons talking about the opportunities in property investment.
In the evening will be the regions first Māori Excellence Awards. Hosted by 2014 Masterchef winners Kasy and Karena Bird, the banquet event will see winners from the region that display excellence in a variety of categories.
