BPW NZ calls for the government to do more for disabled New Zealanders
The Government needs to do more for disabled New Zealanders and work towards an accessible and inclusive society says the New Zealand Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW NZ).
“The International Day of Persons with Disabilities highlights the issues facing the disabled, particularly disabled women who are often marginalised,” says Vicky Mee, President, BPW NZ.
“Women with disabilities face more discrimination and disempowerment in their workplaces and communities than their able-bodied counterparts.
“We urge the Government to fully implement the international conventions that cover disabled women to ensure their rightful inclusion in society.
"The Government also needs to collect statistical data on access to education, employment, health and community so that progress can be tracked – what gets measured gets done.
“BPW NZ is looking forward to seeing action for our disabled women,” says Mrs Mee.
