Serco's Contract Not To Be Renewed
Serco's Contract Not To Be Renewed
No To Serco is pleased that Corrections have come to the decision not to renew Serco's contract to manage Mt Eden Corrections Facility (MECF). Spokesman John Palethorpe said;
"Even though the report has not been published, Corrections has used its contents to come to this decision. No To Serco would still stress that the public deserves to view the report and make their own judgement about the future of Serco in New Zealand's public services.
We reiterate our call for the establishment of an independent prison inspectorate which covers all of New Zealand's prisons to ensure we never have to repeat this process. We also hope that new Minister for Corrections, Judith Collins, begins a review into the contractual reporting requirements of Serco's involvement in South Auckland's Wiri prison"
No To Serco will continue to push for an end to the multinational's involvement in New Zealand's public services, and support those seeking an effective and accountable system to scrutinise New Zealand's prisons.
