Would a Flag Change be a breach of the Treaty of Waitangi?

Would a Flag Change be a breach of the Treaty of Waitangi?

What do iwi think about the proposed removal of the Union Flag - which is a symbol of the link to the Crown - from the national flag? Could that be a breach of the Treaty of Waitangi? There has been no consultation with Maori.

Furthermore the proposed replacement - the silver fern - was first used as a symbol by the Forest Rangers, a settler militia who fought against Maori during the Land Wars.

Isn't it rather inappropriate to remove from the national flag a symbol of the treaty partnership, and replace it with a symbol associated with the oppression of Maori?
