Joint Working Group Pay Equity Principles

Joint Working Group Pay Equity Principles

The Working Women’s Resource Centre welcomes the release of the pay equity principles. These principles will help light the path to finally achieving equal pay in NZ. Well done to the unions, employers and government representatives who themselves have seen the light and understood that NZ can’t have a 21st century economy where half the workforce is paid a lesser rate for the job just because they are women. We look forward to the many thousands of women workers in female dominated jobs getting a fair rate for their efforts and skills which will recognise the true value of their work. The WWRC calls on the NZ government to accept these principles and fund fair pay rates for women in jobs where the government is the employer or the funder. We also call on employers to make provision to pay fair wages now rather than dragging lowly paid women workers through the courts to try to avoid paying women what they are worth.
