UN Youth congratulates Robert Martin on win at UN disabilities committee
UN Youth New Zealand has extended its congratulations and thanks to Robert Martin on his historic election to a key United Nations committee in New York.
The government nominated Robert to be the country’s representative to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. He is the first person in the history of the United Nations with an intellectual disability to be elected to serve on such a committee.
“Robert is a true leader and role-model to New Zealand’s young people. He deserves our warmest congratulations and utmost thanks,” UN Youth National President Bhenjamin Goodsir said.
Robert’s term will run from 2017 until 2020.
“New Zealand must be a leader in expanding the wider community’s commitment to including disabled persons in decision-making,” Goodsir said.
“People, such as Robert, are helping us to be that leader.”
