Governor-General’s Visit to Argentina and Brazil

On 2 August, the Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae will depart for a visit to Argentina and Brazil. In Buenos Aires, the Governor-General will meet Mr Mauricio Macri, President of Argentina.

On 4 August, Their Excellencies will arrive in Rio de Janeiro, where they will visit the Olympics Athletes Village and attend the New Zealand Olympic Team Flag Bearer Naming event.

On 5 August, Their Excellencies will host a brunch at the New Zealand Club before departing for a visit to Mangueira Community, where New Zealand athletes are participating in a project to assist local young people. They will then proceed to a Head of State Pre-Opening Ceremony, followed by the Rio 2016 Olympic Opening Ceremony at Maracanã Stadium.

On 6-9 August, Sir Jerry and Lady Janine will attend a number of sporting events, including rowing, men’s hockey, women’s rugby sevens, and equestrian dressage and eventing. They will also attend medal celebrations for successful New Zealand athletes.

The Governor-General and Lady Janine will arrive back in New Zealand on 11 August.
