Kiwi sportsman Jason Lee’s case


The Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Wellington informs that, with regards to the incident involving Kiwi sportsman Jason Lee in Brazil, Mr. Lee’s statement was collected by Brazilian authorities and the suspects identified and detained within six hours of the offense taking place. Jason Lee is not participating in the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the incident with him has happened far from the Olympic perimeter. The Embassy further informs that the accused individuals are in administrative detention whilst answering for the criminal charges laid before them. The process is underway and additional statements are being collected via videoconference, facilitated by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Embassy has been in touch with Mr. Lee’s family in New Zealand and will remain available to render any assistance it can offer.
