Firefighters Union blacks lead Auckland City fire truck due to safety fears
The New Zealand Professional Firefighters' Union has taken the rare action of black-listing its lead Auckland City Fire Appliance due to safety fears.
The "MAN" branded fire truck based at the Auckland Central Fire Station carries the life saving "jaws of life" rescue equipment.
A long list of faults and failures of the appliance has forced the Union to take this action.
Northern Branch Secretary Boyd Raines says "the Union considered the risk to firefighters and the public to be too high."
It's the first time in 20-years that firefighters have been forced to black an appliance due to safety concerns.
