Housing sell off challenge to be heard in High Court

The US election is the second most important issue to be decided today (Wednesday 9th)

This morning the Wellington High Court will hear State Housing Action Incorporated’s legal challenge against the government decision to sell 1124 state houses in Tauranga to the IHC.

Unbelievably, in the middle of the worst housing crisis for low income families for several decades, the government has decided to sell state houses and make the situation worse.

State Housing Minister Bill English is claiming the government is seeking to improve the situation for low-incomes tenants and families but the outcome of the policy will have the opposite effect.

Having now seen the details of the proposed sale/purchase agreement with the IHC’s housing arm, Accessible Housing, we are more strongly opposed than ever to this appalling policy.

This legal challenge is the latest step in a community-based campaign to stop the sales.

For New Zealand this court hearing is more important than the outcome of the US presidential election.

An information picket will be held outside the Wellington High Court from 9am to 10am tomorrow before the case opens.
