Andrew Leitch for Mt Roskill

10 November 2016

Andrew Leitch for Mt Roskill

Andrew Leitch, a 31 year old commercial pilot, is contesting the Mt Roskill by-election for the Democrats for Social Credit Party.

He was the Party’s candidate in the neighbouring seat of New Lynn last election.

Mr Leitch has been involved for 12 years in the aviation industry in New Zealand, and has also flown whale watching and outback tour charters in Western Australia.

He was previously a newsreader and promotions organiser for an Auckland radio station.

Mr Leitch comes from a family with a long history of Social Credit candidates. His grandfather stood in the Onehunga electorate in 1960 and 63, and both his father and uncle have stood as candidates in Auckland electorates.

“Our financial and economic system is broken” Mr Leitch said.

“The evidence is everywhere you look – overworked doctors and nurses, people living in cars and garages, high debt levels, infrastructure shortages, rising rates, unemployment, rising crime - the list goes on”.

“It’s time we adopted concepts now being promoted overseas to overhaul our economic system: concepts the Democrats for Social Credit Party has promoted for decades”.

The Party has had considerable success in by-elections in its 63 year history, with Bruce Beetham winning Rangitikei in 1978 and Garry Knapp winning East Coast Bays in 1980.

Advance voting in the Mt Roskill by-election begins on 21 November and election day is 3 December.
