Kaumatua Quiz Negotiators for Whakatohea Settlement

Whakatōhea Pre Settlement Claims Trust (WPSCT) has just completed a successful 2nd round of information hui to people of Whakatōhea descent said Mr. Graeme Riesterer Chair of WPSCT.

One of the many hui held was with Kaumātua who attend the Taumata Kaumātua hui held on a monthly basis in Opōtiki Mr Riesterer advised.

Mr. Riesterer noted that “ Jason Pou and Maui Hudson as our appointed Whakatōhea Negotiators presented and answered questions from our Kaumātua, with Kaumātua also having the opportunity to provide their aspirations for settlement “.

A direct result from feedback from our April meetings has been the increased use of social media and in particular Facebook said Mr. Riesterer. This resulted in our last round of presentations being livestreamed on Facebook , which has generated huge interest and engagement from our people from all over New Zealand and the world.

“ It has been extraordinary said Mr Riesterer , as we have been presenting in a room with our people at the meetings we have also been able to answer questions that have come in live over Facebook at the same time”
