Social Media Campaign Puts Climate Change Top of Agenda
Social media campaign to put climate change at top of NZ election agenda
‘Labour leader Jacinda Ardern has declared climate change the "nuclear free moment" of this generation’
A Wellington-based musical group, The Folk Today Project, is running a Facebook advertising campaign aimed at making climate change a major election issue.
Their first three advertisements feature National, Labour and NZ First.
The theme of the advertisements is “Climate change is the defining political issue of today. And 2017 is decision year. Where does your party stand on it? What are you going to do?”
The advertisements have a potential audience of three million New Zealanders of voting age.
The campaign theme is taken from The Folk Today Project’s new song “Earth Anthem 2017”. The anthem points out that the nations met* in 1995 to combat climate change. Since then there’s been a lot of talk. Now, experts say that 2017 is the year that irreversible extreme weather events will begin**. Folk Today say it’s time for government to seriously get to work with significant anti-climate change measures.
