Refuse to shell out more money to fisheries officers
Government refuses to shell out more money to striking fisheries officers.
Urgent mediation between Fisheries Officers and their employer has failed to avert nationwide strike action planned to commence on Friday 1st September 2017.
Last week Fisheries Officers gave their employer notice of the strike action, which will involve a refusal by striking members to work outside the employer’s premises. “This will mean they will not conduct patrols and inspections” says Janice Gemmell.
“MPI are failing to value the flexible role they need to protect fisheries and this industrial action is a last resort”, says Janice Gemmell, Secretary of NUPE, the union representing striking officers.
“MPI confirmed its position that every day has the same value and that there would be no additional payment for weekend work going forward”.
