Leadership Summit Helps Young Women To Win At Life

Thursday 23rd August

Ka Tu Maia Young Women’s Leadership Summit returns on Saturday 8th of August for its second year of incredible humans, inspirational talks and action packed workshops designed to help young Kiwis win at life.

The inaugural event sold out in 2017 with more than 250 young women attending to hear from inspiring speakers such as John Kirwan, Linda Vagana and comedian Jackie Clarke.

This year’s event will feature speakers including broadcaster Ali Mau, filmmaker Roseanne Liang, activist Lexie Matheson ONZM and academic Judy McGregor CNZM. The workshops include advice on how to start your own business, harnessing productivity to achieve your goals and how to overcome self-doubt to achieve your potential. The content is developed through insights research that YWCA Auckland conducts with more than 100 young women annually.

The Summit is aimed at young women aged 18 – 25 and is hosted by YWCA Auckland and writer & media personality Verity Johnson in partnership with AUT. It will be held at AUT City Campus, 8th September, 9am – 4.30pm.

“As a young woman I know that I and many of my cohort experience anxiety about not having our life plans mapped out as well as concerns about what is normal” Verity Johnson says. “This event has an all-star line-up of inspirational speakers from all walks of life sharing wisdom, inspiration and things they’d wish they’d known. Knowing that others have walked your path and triumphed is hugely empowering in helping you find your own life purpose” she adds.

Johnson says that while the Summit is held in Auckland that they want young women from outside the region to attend and benefit from what is on offer. "We have consciously kept the ticket prices at a low $25 and have scholarships available to cover ticket costs and travel," Johnson said.
