Tell the Government your Thoughts: Wage Supplements and Minimum Wage Exemption Permits

At ADL we see people on Minimum Wage Exemptions Permits getting extremely low wages. These Minimum Wage Exemption Permits let a workplace pay disabled workers less than the minimum wage. We believe disabled people should have the same rights as everyone else, including the right to the minimum wage when they have a job.

The Government wants to know what you think about using a Wage Supplement as an alternative to Minimum Wage Exemption Permits. A Wage Supplement would be paid to the employer by the Government. The employer would have to pay the employee the minimum wage or more.

This is your chance to share your experiences of Minimum Wage Exemption Permits and your thoughts on a Wage Supplement:
• Is it fair to pay disabled people less than the minimum wage?
• A wage supplement means that the government helps employers pay the minimum wage: What do you like about this idea? What are the risks?
• Should the government pay the same wage supplement amount for all eligible people, or should they pay different amounts based on people’s skills and abilities?

Your Feedback on Wage Supplements as an alternative to Minimum Wage Exemption Permits must be received by Sunday 14 April 2019.
