Luana Scowcroft Launches Council Bid With Appeal For Future Generations
Green Party candidate for Wellington's Motukairangi-Eastern Ward Luana Scowcroft is launching her campaign at Hataitai Centre (the former Hataitai Bowling Club) at 7pm tonight, Saturday July 2nd.
Luana says that council's short-term thinking, and a lack of attention on housing and climate change, are failing current and future generations of Wellingtonians.
"As a parent I have a responsibility to do everything I can to ensure our home not only survives but thrives well into the future,
"The lack of bold decision making around the Council table is setting our babies up to fail. We are in a climate emergency and cannot afford more of the same.
"Throughout my career I’ve been in roles where hard decisions have to be made, and where the buck stops with me. I’ve been successful in this because I'm a connector who tries to find shared values where there may be opposition.
"Housing, climate action, protection for freshwater and biodiversity, all require bold decisions to be made.
"My upbringing has taught me the importance of community and I want to bring these values to council."
Luana is a Cook Islander and has a background in business, community service and the public sector. She lives in Hataitai with her partner and children.
