More on Bunkle's Dangerous Prescription
Following his statements earlier this week rubbishing Alliance MP Phillida Bunkle's thoughts on chlamydia treatment, Libertarianz spokesman Dr Richard McGrath reminds his medical colleagues that her proposal is both hazardous and unscientific.
"Ms Bunkle advocates blanket dosing with anti-chlamydia medication," said Dr McGrath. "I assume she means dosing the nation with azithromycin tablets. What she doesn't seem to realise is that not only is some chlamydia treatment dangerous in pregnant women and children, but that indiscriminate dosing with antibiotics can cause allergic reactions and induce organism resistance."
Dr McGrath and his party believe the treatment of chlamydial disease should be a private matter between patients and their health providers. "We see no need to involve the Queen in clearing up people's sexually acquired infections as Ms Bunkle suggests.
"Under a Libertarianz government the Queen would be free to set herself up as a health provider if she wished," he added. "However, she would have to compete in a deregulated market where the medical monopoly and its high prices for consumers would thankfully be consigned to the dustbin of history, followed soon after by the Alliance and its 1930s-era communist policies."
