Lockwood Lacks Basic Understanding of Free Trade

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lockwood Lacks Basic Understanding of Free Trade

"Lockwood Smith, in seeking to justify free trade by incantations to 'New Zealand Inc.' demonstrates that he doesn't understand the principle of individual sovereignty underlying free trade," laments Andrew Bates, Libertarianz spokesman on APEC.

"Lockie demonstrates that he so clearly and completely fails to grasp the principle of individual sovereignty that justifies free trade. People dealing with each other voluntarily, and without coercion," says Bates, "that is what underpins all arguments for free trade."

Bates offers a challenge: "If Blockwood and the National Socialists really cared about free trade and the individual sovereignty that underpins it, they would immediately drop all remaining tariffs on goods coming into this country, and remove forthwith the millstone of tax and regulation from around the necks of New Zealand's businessmen."

The explosion of prosperity that followed would demonstrate more profoundly than any research study or expensive conference could, that wealth is produced when compulsion is absent. "Unfortunately," says Bates, "fat cat politicians will be more interested in their lamb dinners at APEC, than in removing corrosive protectionism from the menus of world trade."
