Call For An Inquiry Into Germline Engineering
Network Supports Greens Call For An Inquiry Into Germline Engineering
The Chairman of the Life Sciences Network, Dr William Rolleston, today supported the call from Green MP, Sue Kedgley, for a wide debate about germline engineering.
“Fortunately the Royal Commission has suggested an appropriate vehicle for such a debate to be conducted, the Bioethics Council.
“Life Sciences Network members strongly support the Royal Commission’s recommendation that there needs to be a body of experts established to consider, from a basis of good science, the ramifications of new techniques such as germline engineering.
“We call on the Green Party to use its considerable influence inside Parliament and among certain sectors of the public to ensure popular support for this specific outcome of the Royal Commission’s deliberations.
