The Edison Mission Energy Science Roadshow is to be launched today with science demonstrations to make you laugh, gasp and wonder.
The Roadshow travels the country taking an 80 minute interactive and hands-on science-technology programme to schools and communities.
Its new sponsor, Edison Mission Energy will enable the Roadshow Trust to improve the educational experiences and learning outcomes offered to children.
Trust director, Ian Kennedy, says the sponsorship “is a real boost, it is going to be great.”
Energy Company, Edison Mission Energy, which owns 51 percent of Contact Energy, is sponsoring the Science Roadshow to the tune of $300,000 over three years.
The money comes from fees earmarked for three Edison Mission Energy directors who sit on the Contact Energy board.
Edison Mission Energy Vice President, Bob Driscoll, says his company made an undertaking to shareholders last year to donate the directors’ fees to a community project.
He says “we are committed to making a contribution to the New Zealand community and are excited about the Edison Mission Energy Science Roadshow and what it offers young people throughout the country.”
Science Minister Pete Hodgson will join Bob Driscoll and Ian Kennedy to launch the Edison Mission Energy Science Roadshow at 12 noon today at the Overseas Terminal in Wellington. They will be checking out all that is on offer before the Roadshow national tour begins on 10 February in Masterton.
