Face Recognition Technology Ordered by Singapore

Imagis Technologies' ID-2000 Face Recognition Technology Ordered by Singapore Government

VANCOUVER, March 17 /CNW-AsiaNet/ --

Imagis Technologies Inc. ("Imagis") (OTCBB:IGSTF; TSX.V:NAB; Germany:IGY), a leading developer of law enforcement software and biometric systems using advanced facial and image recognition technology, announced today that an initial order has been placed by the Singapore Government for Imagis' ID-2000(TM) face recognition technology. The use of ID-2000 is intended to enhance the investigative capabilities across a number of agencies within the government.

Imagis is working in Singapore in collaboration with emBiosys Asia- Pacific Pte. Ltd, a leading Singapore biometrics-based system integrator.

ID-2000 is highly advanced software technology that identifies an individual using only a facial photo, video, or artist's composite drawing. This technology can be used to identify terrorists, drug-traffickers, and known criminals, and has achieved notable success for governments and law enforcement agencies around the world. It was used to protect world leaders, including US President George Bush, at the 10th APEC Conference and Leaders Meeting held in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in October 2002. Two separate video surveillance and face recognition security installations were deployed - one at San Jose del Cabo Airport and one at the hotel hosting the conference. This installation employed several digital cameras, two of which were dedicated to Imagis ID-2000, one at a security choke point, the other surveying video of conference attendees on a 24/7 basis. These installations represented the first use of any face recognition technology on a high-powered 64-bit Itanium(R) architecture, allowing access to very large databases.

ID-2000 is used in many major government agencies, including a large county-wide installation in Alameda County, California, where 30 law enforcement agencies are linked over a LAN. Imagis ID-2000 is used in conjunction with Imagis' law enforcement Computerized Arrest & Booking System, CABS(TM), where it has assisted in the identification of serious criminals. Imagis ID-2000 has also been deployed in a significant law enforcement project within a UK national police agency.

"We are delighted that the Singapore Government is proceeding with the use of the new release of our ID-2000 facial recognition technology. This latest version represents a quantum improvement in recognition accuracy over previous releases, and we look forward to it making a central contribution to improved security for the Singapore Government," said Iain Drummond, President and CEO, Imagis Technologies Inc.
