Success
Technology Center Hermia, Finland,
The Linux Summit 2003, arranged by SOT in co-operation with HP, Oracle and F-Secure was a declared a success for both organizers and attendees. The two-day conference, held in Dipoli, Finland on February 27-28, attracted close to 400 visitors from Finland's largest corporations and public organizations. Participants at the inaugural Linux Summit examined a range of sustainable, commercially viable GNU/Linux and Open Source solutions.
"I am pleased at the Summit's success. I believe it will be a boost for GNU/Linux in Finland, especially in the domains of business and government. I would like to thank our sponsors for making the Summit possible, and the speakers who provided such excellent and stimulating content for our audience of decision-makers", said Santeri Kannisto, Managing Director, SOT.
Eighty-five percent of attendees rated the content and organization of the Summit as "good" or "excellent". Participants voted Linux International's Jon "Maddog" Hall as the most interesting speaker, followed by Brother Viktor of Valamo Monastery and Nokia's Esa Nurmi. The most popular training seminar was a "Linux and Security" tutorial given by Brazilian security expert Pedro Bueno.
Sponsors were also pleased with the outcome.
"We will definitely do this again next year. The Summit has received an extraordinary amount of praise from people who appreciated its high-level technical and business content, and its expert speakers. I hope that at next year's Summit we can have representatives from Redmond participate, to satisfy those who are interested in the interoperability of the two leading operating systems. This year, unfortunately, that didn't happen" commented Mr. Erno Räsänen, Manager, Marketing, SOT.
The Linux Summit website, http://www.linuxsummit.org, contains selected training material and lectures from the Summit, along with pictures and video. Interested parties can also sign up at the website for email announcements regarding the next Linux Summit, planned to be held in Helsinki, Finland in February 2004.
