NextWindow Secures Major Technology New Zealand Grant To
Further Develop World Class Touchscreen
Technology
NextWindow, the New Zealand-based designer of world leading optical imaging technology for touchscreens, has secured a Technology New Zealand grant for $560,000. The funds will enable NextWindow to further develop the miniaturisation of touchscreen components to ‘touch-enable’ flat panel displays. The grant follows NextWindow’s ground breaking advancement in optical imaging technology which facilitates the cost-effective production of large scale touchscreens.
According to Al Monro, Chief Executive Officer of NextWindow, the grant allows NextWindow to develop miniaturised lens and chip components within its optical imaging solution. “This will further consolidate the cost-effectiveness of NextWindow’s technology in comparison with competitive offerings around the world,” he says.
Technology New Zealand Investment Manager Colin Reid says, “the grants target technological risk takers, enterprises which are willing to push the boundaries of innovation for the greater economic benefit of New Zealand. NextWindow clearly meet that criteria.”
The Technology New Zealand funding allows NextWindow to further enhance its optical imaging technology. The company plans to refine and miniaturise its solution as well as further reduce manufacturing costs. NextWindow is in discussions with overseas partners to market the product globally.
Technology New Zealand is a government agency that fosters innovation by funding research and experimental development in private companies. The grant is made available through Technology New Zealand’s Technology for Business Growth (TBG) scheme.
About NextWindow Established in June 2000, New Zealand based NextWindow designs and develops optical imaging technologies in the fields of gesture and touch recognition. NextWindow is one of the world’s leading specialists in delivering high quality touchscreen technology at a fraction of the manufacturing cost of other touchscreen technologies.
Prior to NextWindow’s ground breaking invention in
optical imaging, the substantial costs associated with
traditional touchscreen technology precluded mass
exploitation of large or multiple touchscreens. NextWindow’s
breakthrough in touchscreen design involved the introduction
of optical imaging techniques to touch recognition. These
advancements have facilitated easier integration and lowered
associated production costs.
