New intelligent video surveillance protects ports

Media Release

ADT's new Intelligent Video Surveillance protects ports

October, 2004 - ADT has announced it will become the official partner in New Zealand and Australia with ObjectVideo, the leader in intelligent video surveillance software.

"With focus now intensified on national or homeland security, ADT is aware of the importance in securing our ports, borders and critical infrastructure," said Jordon Peters ADT's Integrated Systems manager.

"With this revolutionary new software, developed by US military research scientists, port security personnel can create virtual perimeters across land and water by simply drawing a video tripwire directly on a computer snapshot of the camera's view."

This award winning technology also introduces dynamic environmental filters that automatically adjust to challenging and changing outdoor environments. For example, it eliminates false alarms caused by water reflection, white caps and tidal action in areas of interest along a waterside.

"The software is currently deployed across the U.S to protect against terrorism and other threats and to secure critical infrastructure such as airports, seaports, oil refineries, chemical and nuclear plants and public water supply facilities. " Peters said.

Organisations in the US currently utilising this technology include the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Customs and Border Protection Bureau, the Department of Defence, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S Navy and a variety of private sector businesses.

Enhanced features also include increased range of detection, refined object classification as well as flow control, which, for instance, can detect people traveling in the wrong direction in crowded environments such as airport security exits.

The open architecture of the software enables it to be easily and quickly integrated into existing video surveillance infrastructures. With a new integrator toolkit, security experts and partners can optimize configuration and performance through tools such as parameter configuration, camera placement and object sizing, as well as a management tool to easily upgrade, maintain and adjust the software according to a customer's operational requirements.
