Mercedes-Benz mounts a double challenge
Two very different Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be competing for class wins in the 2004 EnergyWise Rally.
One of the entries is a luxury S-Class, powered by a 3.2 litre turbo-diesel engine. At the wheel of the most expensive and most luxurious car in the event will be Driver Magazine publisher Allan Dick, with Keri Ashton-Reid as co-driver. The S320 CDI will be a real contender in the large / luxury car class, and aims to demonstrate that luxury car buyers need not sacrifice low fuel consumption in order to enjoy top-class high-performance motoring.
The other Mercedes-Benz will be a Vito 115 van. Mercedes-Benz have taken up Volkswagen’s challenge, and will pit the Vito against Volkswagen’s Transporter. Commercial vehicles have a very important role to play in improving the efficiency and environmental friendliness of the country’s vehicle fleet, and the event will be enhanced by the participation of two class-leading commercial vans. The Vito will be driven by Jon Addison, editor of NZ Trucking Magazine.
Mercedes-Benz joins a growing list of local vehicle distributors participating in EnergyWise Rally 2004, which takes place from 2-5 November over a challenging indirect route from Auckland to Wellington and back. See more at www.energywiserally.org.nz.
