Slay the Mega Monster
Slay the Mega Monster
Monday 3 April 2006
The Nelson Peak Oil Group contends that the new Mitre 1o Mega store is a prime example of the kind of development which should not be taking place. At a time when fuel costs are rising steeply and will continue to rise even more as the NZ dollar depreciates, rather than enabling people to shop closer to home, this new development forces people to undertake more car trips.
"Even leaving aside how out of character and out of scale this hideously bright orange monster is in our community " says Spokesperson, Ron Resnick, "we do not see any benefit accruing to the Nelson region from this kind of development. "
With Placemakers also shifting to big new premises near ENZA, Nelson and Richmond residents are left with no alternative but to do more driving.
"We believe the developers will regret scaling up so massively when fuel shortages and ultimately rationing will likely render their enterprise a dismal failure".
We would support and encourage someone to open a small scale local hardware shop in both Nelson and Richmond and look forward to seeing the monster slain.
