Foodsafe Partnership website gets a revamp

Foodsafe Partnership website gets a revamp

Capping off Foodsafe week (November 13-19) the New Zealand Foodsafe Partnership has given its website at www.foodsafe.org.nz a fresh new look.

Foodborne illness caused by poor food handling practices in the home is a major health issue in New Zealand. The revamped website is just one initiative the Partnership has developed to make food safety interesting and fun.

Foodsafe Partnership spokesperson Sandra Daly says the website concentrates on reminding people of two key messages: the 4Cs and the 20+20 rule.

"A great deal of foodborne illness can be prevented by remembering the 4Cs: Clean, Cook, Cover, Chill and the 20+20 hand wash rule: 20 seconds washing plus 20 seconds drying = clean hands.

"The website also has a new contests section where you can win some great prizes, links to information about food safety and details on how to contact or join the Partnership.

"With an estimated 119,000 cases of foodborne illness in New Zealand a year, and about 40% of these originating in the home at huge personal – and national – health and economic wellbeing, the work of the Partnership is very important.

"This new website is just one of many initiatives that the Partnership has in place, and more are in planning for the New Year. We encourage any organisations or businesses interested in food safety to make contact, especially as the numbers of cases of illness increase during the warmer months.

"Foodborne illness is preventable – it can be reduced by taking care."
