Google Manager Giving Seminar At Creative HQ Event
Influential Google open source program manager Chris DiBona is confirmed as a speaker at the Creative HQ Summer of Code seminars series.
Mr DiBona is the ‘father’ of the Google Summer of Code on which Creative HQ’s programme is based.
His presentation is at Victoria University’s government buildings campus on Wednesday February 7 and open to the public, space allowing.
John Clegg of ProjectX – a Creative HQ resident company – heard that Mr DiBona was visiting Wellington to talk to central government politicians, and through work contacts invited Mr DiBona to speak.
The Creative HQ incubator for high-growth businesses is an initiative of Positively Wellington Business.
“People of this calibre seldom come to New Zealand so we are pretty lucky to be given some of his time,” says Mr Clegg.
“The Summer of Code works like an internship – it connects students who want real world coding experience with start-up companies like those here at CHQ.
“The student learns a lot, start-ups get some extra help, and we promote the city as a technology destination.”
Creative HQ general manager Mark Robotham credits the success of the Summer of Code to the initiative of some of his resident businesses.
“It’s an example of them taking a concept, then linking with the wider business community outside these four walls to create something very valuable.”
