Earthquakes a timely reminder
Last night’s swarm of earthquakes in Auckland are a timely reminder that New Zealanders need to be prepared for all types of disasters which could happen anywhere and anytime, says the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management.
The Ministry is urging all New Zealanders to take the time to prepare a Household Emergency Plan and Emergency Survival Kit.
“Last night’s earthquakes highlight the need to look after ourselves and our families by preparing for the unexpected,” says director John Hamilton.
“Many types of disasters could result in New Zealanders having to cope on their own for some time. The best way to get through is to get ready.”
Information about preparing for an emergency or disaster can be found on the website www.getthru.govt.nz or by picking up a Get Ready Get Thru brochure from Civil Defence offices.
The website also gives advice how to respond during an emergency or disaster.
