EECA delighted at Meridian Makara Wind Farm Announcement
Meridian’s announcement to proceed with its wind farm at Makara is great news for renewable energy in New Zealand says Mike Underhill, Chief Executive of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).
“New Zealand has a world class wind resource and we need to see more of it developed if we are to meet our demand for energy while minimising damage to the environment,” said Mike Underhill.
“The consenting process has allowed everybody to have their say and Meridian’s revised plans take the Environment Court’s findings into account. This just goes to show that sensible solutions can be found through the Resource Management Act process.
‘The key to managing our energy responsibly into the future is to stop wasting what we already have. If we use energy efficiency to keep our rising demand in check, and meet all new load growth with renewable energy projects, we will be making significant steps towards our sustainability goals,’ said Mike Underhill.
