Web09 launches in Auckland
Auckland, 1
December, 2008Tickets go on sale today for Web09 — a new,
inspiring conference for web companies, developers and
designers.
With a focus on rich internet experiences, iPhone application development, online communities, design and the people behind it, Web09 is the first conference of its kind in Auckland.
With a lineup of speakers like Biz Stone from immensely popular Twitter (US); Adobe Flash Evangelist Paul Burnett (AUS); Tim Heuer from Microsoft's Silverlight team (US); developer advocate Christian Schalk from Google (US) and mobile trends guru Hiroshi Yasukawa (JPN), plus local successful iPhone application developers, this conference is set to inspire and motivate web professionals.
Other speakers include Phillip Fierlinger, head of design of New Zealand's own software-as-a-service success story Xero; blogger and author Michael Lopp from www.randsinrepose.com (US) and Wellington designer Jarred Bishop. Further speakers will be announced.
Web09 will be held on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 April at the Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland.
In collaboration with Microsoft, Web09 gives the opportunity for delegates to attend a pre-conference workshop on Thursday 16 April, featuring Tim Heuer and Karen Corby from the US Silverlight team, and Corrina Barber and Arturo Toledo, UX experts.
Web09 has developed from the Auckland Web Meetup (www.meetup.co.nz), a group with over 500 active members, run by web developer and entrepreneur John Ballinger. The group meets once a month for an evening of presentations, pizza and beer. The success of the Meetup made John Ballinger realise there was demand for a much larger event, and he decided to act on that opportunity.
Web09 is sponsored by Microsoft, Adobe and Google.
