Samsung Introduces Stylish, Ultra-Slim Digital Camera

New ST50 packs a punch with the finest technologies in a slender frame

Samsung Electronics today launched the ST50, a remarkably slim 12.2 mega-pixel digital camera. The ST50 is the ultimate pocket-sized digital imaging solution.

“The ST50 epitomises style and simplicity,” said Emma Keen, Samsung’s head of marketing and corporate sponsorship. “With its brushed stainless steel body and slim profile, this camera demonstrates Samsung’s achievement in design and performance. It’s an intelligent camera too, with clever features right at the user’s fingertips, which makes capturing those special moments even easier.”

The sleek camera is just 16.6mm thick (excluding the lens) and is highly portable offering a large 2.7 inch LCD screen for framing shots, reviewing images and videos, as well as a high-quality Samsung lens with 3x optical zoom.

“The slimline ST50 is so portable it fits in your pocket or in your bag, this compact camera will let you take beautiful pictures and view them wherever you are,” says Ms Keen.

The ST50 is packed full of features to achieve pro
fessional-looking shots including, Beauty Shot, Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection and Smart Auto.

The Beauty Shot mode is a unique option that automatically retouches imperfections like blemishes and dark spots on a subject’s face to improve skin tones. The user is able to control the level of retouching to any image.

The ST50 also offers consumers Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection – all of these features are engineered to improve results and enhance images. Face Detection automatically recognises up to nine faces in a frame and adjusts camera settings to maximise image quality, while Smile Shot captures an image the moment the ST50 recognises a smile. When Blink Detection is selected, the ST50 will automatically take two successive shots when the shutter button is fully depressed, and a third shot will be fired if the camera detects that a subject’s eyes are closed.

“It’s good to know that even though you might not be looking your best, the ST50 can give us all a little bit of help to achieve great looking pictures. I am sure this feature will be a hit with all of the Facebook fans in New Zealand,” adds Ms Keen.

The ST50 introduces Samsung’s new Smart Auto feature which takes ease-of-use to a new level. When engaged, Smart Auto automatically selects one of eleven scene modes which best suits the environment the user may be shooting in. For example, if the user is taking an image of a mountain range, the camera automatically switches to landscape scene mode. If the user then proceeds to take an image of an individual, it automatically switches to portrait scene mode for top quality photographs every time.

In addition to the Beauty Shot mode and Smart Auto, the ST50 incorporates Samsung’s own Smart Album programme, a useful tool which allows users to search the files they have saved on their memory card for any specific image.

“The ST50’s intuitive functionality automatically organises digital images providing the ability to narrow a search based on the date or month the image was taken, the file type, be it a photo, video, or voice memo, and the overall colour tone – it makes finding what you’re looking for really easy,” says Ms Keen.

Video recording capabilities have been enhanced in the new ST50, which features MPEG-4 video recording, so consumers can capture video at a maximum resolution of 800x592 (SVGA) at 20fps and utilise the camera’s 3x optical zoom for added versatility. In-camera editing controls are available in the ST50, which allows users to pause, then resume filming of video clips without having to save each clip as an individual file.

Samsung’s sleek camera design and innovation has been recognised internationally with the ST50 among the finalists at the recent 2009 CES Innovation Awards for the ‘Ultra-Slim Digital Camera’ category.

The Samsung ST50 comes in four vibrant colours (black, silver, red and blue) with a RRP of $499.
