Boost for high-tech sector
welcomed
IRL has welcomed the Government’s
decision to enable it to grow and become the “High-Tech
HQ” for New Zealand industry.
Chair Michael Ludbrook said today’s announcement demonstrated confidence in the organisation’s ability to contribute to economic growth through stimulating innovation in industry.
“At this stage it is too early to comment on the specifics of the announcement, and there will be a lot of detail to be worked through,” he said.
“IRL, however, is looking forward to working with the Government and the Ministry for Science and Innovation to establish the new research and development enterprise.”
Mr Ludbrook said the decision means IRL will expand the organisation’s focus in Christchurch and Auckland, which are both important centres of innovation for New Zealand.
“Industry will be pleased to see the continued commitment of the Government to research and development, particularly as it will support IRL’s efforts to work in partnership with individual companies and industry groups to grow the high-tech sector of the economy.”
